GoTEM defines a Goal as a function of three life capitals (Time, Energy, Money) and uses four well-validated brain-science theories to reallocate those capitals daily, maximizing speed toward the Goal.
1. What is GoTEM Theory?
GoTEM stands for Goal + Time + Energy + Money. It is not a clever acronym — it is a working hypothesis that every life goal can be expressed as a function of three capitals: time, energy, and money.
Most planning systems handle only one of these. The Eisenhower matrix handles time. GTD handles task capture. Habit trackers handle frequency. GoTEM is the first daily-use operating system designed to manage all three capitals on the same canvas — because that is the only way to give a quantitative answer to why today didn't work.
2. The Equation: Goal = f(Time, Energy, Money)
The equation makes one simple claim: if any capital approaches zero, the product collapses.
- Plenty of time, zero energy → you sit down and nothing comes out.
- Plenty of energy, zero money → no environment, no tools, no leverage.
- Plenty of money, zero time → no channel through which to spend it.
GoTEM measures all three capitals on a 0–100 scale every day, then prioritizes tomorrow's resources on the capital with the lowest score. Compounded over 7–14 days, this single rule produces measurable change.
3. Definitions of the Three Capitals
3.1 Time Capital
Not all hours are equal. Time capital has three sub-axes.

3.2 Energy Capital

- Sleep (0–100) — duration + quality + consistency. Heaviest weight: 0.30.
- Exercise (0–100) — total volume + intensity. Weight 0.20.
- Food (0–100) — meal balance + caffeine timing. Weight 0.20.
- Mood (0–100) — one self-reported feeling per day. Weight 0.30.
The weighted sum is the Brain Efficiency Score. After three days of data, a personal baseline is computed.
3.3 Money Capital
Money is not just direct spending. Three sub-axes:
- Direct budget — this month's goal-related spend.
- Time-equivalent value — hourly rate × hours spent. The basis for outsourcing decisions.
- Opportunity cost — what this hour could have produced elsewhere.

5. Scientific Foundations
GoTEM is not a new untested hypothesis. It integrates four well-validated cognitive- and brain-science theories into a single daily-use operating system.
5.1 Chronotype — the science of "when to work"
Roenneberg et al. (2003) showed in a large dataset that human sleep–wake rhythms vary across individuals by roughly 4–5 hours. The same wall-clock hour is a different cognitive opportunity for different people. GoTEM's golden-hour estimate starts from the Munich ChronoType Questionnaire (MCTQ).
5.2 Cognitive Load Theory — "how heavy a task to place"
Sweller (1988) demonstrated that working memory is capacity-limited and that performance degrades sharply once load passes a threshold. GoTEM grades every block on a T1–T5 cognitive-load scale and auto-places heavy T4–T5 blocks inside the golden hour.
5.3 Distributed Practice — "when to revisit"
Cepeda et al. (2006) meta-analyzed 184 studies and found that, holding total study time constant, distributing review across spaced intervals produces significantly higher long-term retention. This is the basis for GoTEM's weekly pattern report and trial-end report cadence.
5.4 Goal-Setting Theory — "how goals reshape behavior"
Locke & Latham's (2002) 35-year synthesis showed that specific, challenging goals consistently outperform vague or "do your best" goals. GoTEM's Long-Term Goal Laser pins a 2–3 year north-star above each daily slot, making today visually contiguous with the larger arc.
